Lip Augmentation
(Lip Enhancement or Lip Enlargement)
Lip Enhancement is a
procedure to increase the fullness of the lips. After
the eyes, the lips are the next most engaging area of
the face. During a conversation, the eyes of an observer
swing always from the eyes to the lips and back. The
volume of the lips can be thick and prominent, or thin
and retracted. Fuller lips are generally more attractive
and desirable.
We will evaluate your
lips and how they balance with the rest of your facial
features. When indicated, lip enhancement may be
achieved by the injection of a filler material such as
collagen behind the lip as well as in the space between
the skin and mucosa of the lip.
Cosmetically improves the
fullness of lips, by one of three techniques:
injections, grafting or local flaps. This procedure is
sometimes combined with facial implants,
Botox,
chemical peels and facial laser resurfacing. Lip
augmentation can also reduce fine lines and wrinkles
around the mouth.
Collagen and transfer of the patient’s own fat are often
used with newer injectibles like
Restylane. Among the
variety of techniques used for lip augmentation is laser
lip rejuvenation; a non-invasive procedure which
tightens the natural collagen and elastic tissue beneath
the lips, and the more invasive, procedure of V-Y lip
augmentation, which requires large incisions inside the
lips. Although the lips will remain swollen 3 to 9
months after surgery, the procedure is said to last
longer.
Current filler materials,
such as collagen, are temporary and must be repeated
every 3 to 6 months. We are very experienced in this new
and exciting material for lip enhancement as well as
wrinkle treatment. A variety of permanent fillers are
also available, and can be used in certain cases.
Lipotransfer can be a safe, effective, and longer
lasting alternative to
Restylane and other injectables.
The fat is harvested from the abdomen or buttock area
through a system of small cannulas. After a few minutes
of minor processing, the fat is replaced into the lips
to the desired fullness and shape. The Center for
Aesthetic Surgery uses a modern microdroplet technique
to ensure a smooth, natural, and long-lasting
appearance.
